Abstract
Chile is known internationally to have many species which are potential new crops. Zephyra elegans D. Don. is one of these ornamental plants with potential due to its tidy plant form, beautiful flowers, attractive scent and excellent vase life.
The effect of corm weight on the growth and flowering of Z. elegans was investigated.
Although some 0.3 g corms emerged and flowered, corms larger than 0.8 g were required to produce commercial cut flowers.
As corm weight increased, the quality of cut flowers increased.
During one growing season, 0.3 g corms grew to larger than 0.8 g, which will be capable of producing good quality flowers in the subsequent season.
