Abstract
In the genus Dendranthema and related genera, there are many wild species which are not yet used as materials in the breeding programs.
Wild species may have useful characters not available among established cultivars.
However, they show wide variation in flowering response, an obstacle in cross pollination.
Flowering control by daylength is effective in chrysanthemum, and information on pollen storage is limited.
Pollen storage at 1°C was not effective.
Six solvents were assessed for feasibility for pollen storage, and benzene was the most effective; after storing pollen grains for 35 days at 1°C in benzene, the germination percentage was half that of fresh pollen.
