INHERITANCE OF SOME ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS IN SOUR CHERRY POPULATION
The cherry seedlings are being evaluated for these characteristics: ripening dated, self-fertility, productivity, time of the first fruit set, fruit size, flesh to pit ratio and the the colour of the skin and flesh.
The crosses made were: ‘Pándy’ x ‘Amarella’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Császár’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Eugenia’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Korai angol’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Montreuilli’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Nagy Gobet’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Ostheimi’, ‘Pándy’ x Prin korai'(‘Early Prin’), ‘Pándy’ x ‘Korai májusi piros’ (‘Early Red May’), ‘Pándy’ x ‘Nagy angol’.
The progenies gave folowing results: maturity time: 3.5 % early, 54.3 % mid, 42.2 % late; self-fertility: 10 % self-fertile, 90 % practically self-sterile (74.5 % completely self-sterile); yield capacity: 3 % very productive, 13 % medium crop, 48 % light crop, 36 % fruitless; first fruit set: 8 % before the age of nine, 56 % between 10 to 12th year, 35 % after the 12th year; Fruit size: 10.4 % up to 15 mm, 82.6 % between 15-19.9 mm, 7% over 20 mm; flesh/pit ratio: 14 % under 6 % of pit, 84 % between 6-12 of pit, 2 % over 12 % of pit weight; skin colour: 25 % light, 53 % red, 22 % dark; flesh colour: 48 % clear, 38 % red, 14 % black.
The best genetic results gave the crosses ‘Pándy’x ‘Nagy angol’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Eugenia’, ‘Pándy’ x ‘Montreuilli’ and ‘Pándy’ x ‘Császár’.
