Abstract
In the years 1988–1990 different organs of 8–10-year-old ‘Schattenmorelle’ sour cherry trees were analysed for mineral element content.
Dropped flowers, bracteoles, fruitlets, fruit stalks and leaves were collected under the trees.
Four trees cut down in spring were subdivided to wood of different age and buds separated from shoots.
Leaves and buds were also separated from summer prunings and remaining shoots subdivided according to their age.
Roots of two trees were excavated and calibrated according to their diameter, N, K, P, Mg, Ca, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu and Al content was determined in dried materials.
A great diversity of nutrient concentrations in different tree organs was found.
In general, high concentrations of nutrient elements were noted in generative organs and related parts, like seeds, flowers, bracteoles or fruitlets.
N, K, Ca, Mg and Fe were also high in leaves.
N, P, Mg and Zn were high in buds (both midsummer and spring); K, Fe and Mn in buds collected in spring; N, Mg, Fe and Al in fine roots.
Concentration of most elements in top wood and in roots decreased with age, being usually the lowest in trunk, thick roots and root collar.
