Abstract
Concentration of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) in leaves of two sweet cherry cultivars: ‘Burlat’ and ‘Buttner’s Red’ grafted on vegetatively propagated rootstocks: F12/1, P-HL- A (84), P-HL-C (6) and Colt was studied in the years 1989–1992. Both cultivars grafted on Mazzard seedlings were used as a control.
Furthermore, this experiment included the same cultivars on Mazzard seedlings, treated with Cultar applied to the soil in autumn of the second year after planting.
The sweet cherry orchard was planted in the spring 1988.
Furthermore, this experiment included the same cultivars on Mazzard seedlings, treated with Cultar applied to the soil in autumn of the second year after planting.
The sweet cherry orchard was planted in the spring 1988.
The average figures of the major nutrients in leaves of two sweet cherry cultivars during the period 1989–92 showed that the rootstock had significant effects on the content of Ca, Mg and K in leaves.
Leaves of trees on the dwarf rootstocks P-HL-A and P-HL-C contained less Ca than those of control trees.
In addition, trees on both P-HL rootstocks, except ‘Buttner’s Red’ on P-HL-A, had significantly lower level of Mg in leaves than the controls.
The Colt rootstock increased the Mg and Ca level, but reduced the K content of the leaves.
No significant effects of rootstock and Cultar on N and P concentration in leaves of the two sweet cherry cultivars were found.
