ESTIMATION OF NUTRIENT REQUIREMENTS OF SOUR CHERRY

Abstract
Annual use of nutrient elements for development of different organs of 8–10-year old sour cherry trees was calculated based on estimation of mass or mass increment of particular organs and determination of their mineral element content.
According to the concept of Greenham net nutrient uptake, i.e. amount of nutrients removed from the orchard with harvested fruits + amount incorporated in woody organs due to their increase, was distinguished from gross nutrient uptake which included also amounts of nutrients which may be apparently returned to the soil in course of decomposition of naturally excised or pruned tree organs.
Net annual uptake was estimated at 61.9 kg N, 27.9 kg K, 3.6 kg P, 21.6 kg Ca, 2.0 kg Mg, 684 g Fe, 249 g Mn, 16 g Cu and 74 g Zn per ha while gross uptake amounted to 117.6 kg N, 62.5 kg K, 5.8 kg P, 80.2 kg Ca, 12.1 kg Mg, 1699 g Fe, 575 g Mn, 68 g Cu and 188 g Zn.
These results confirm that nutrient requirement of fruit trees is relatively low.
Nevertheless the rate of recycling of nutrients contained in tree organs dropped on the soil surface remains an open problem.
