Abstract
For experimentation with flower bulbs it is important to be well informed about the developmental stages of flower formation.
For this reason Blaauw started his investigations into bulbous crops on a morphological basis.
His excellent drawings are scattered over several publications (Waterschoot 1927; Mulder and Luyten, 1928; Huisman and Hartsema, 1933; Blaauw, 1935; Krijthe, 1939). Beyer published photographs of developmental stages of the tulip, the hyacinth and the narcissus (1952, 1953, 1954 respectively) Because these pictures are no longer available we intend to publish shortly several series of photographs concerning the developmental stages of flower formation in tulips, narcissi, irises, hyacinths and lilies.
Besides this publication, colour slides of these stages of the tulip, the iris and the lily as well as black-and-white plates of the five species mentioned will be used for practical and educational purposes.
The colour slides were presented on the occasion of the Second International Symposium on Flower Bulbs.
