Abstract
Acetone powders were prepared from selected parts of tulip bulbs (cv."Apeldoorn") that had received differential amounts of cold treatment.
The proteins were extracted with alkaline buffer solutions and separated by polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis.
Various histochemical stains selectively showed up the distribution of general proteins, glycoproteins, lipoproteins and specific enzymes especially those concerned with carbohydrate metabolism.
Cold treatment only slightly modified most of these, but markedly decreased glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and phosphorylase, and increased invertase activity in shoots beginning to grow rapidly.
