NEW PEARS FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC

A pear breeding programme in the Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology in Holovousy started in 1955 and later it was kept on in the workplace Techobuzice.
In this contribution we are presenting evaluation of six chosen winter cultivars: ´Bohemica´ (´Comtesse de Paris´ x ´Beurre des Charneuses´), ´Delta´ (´Beurré Bosc´ x ´Comtesse de Paris´), ´Dicolor´ (´Holenická´ x ´Williams Pear´), ´Dita´ (´President Drouard´ x ´Conference´), ´Erica´ (´Beurré Bosc´ x ´President Drouard´), and ´Omega´ (´Beurré Bosc ´x ´Doyenné du Comice´). The cultivars ´Bohemica´, ´Delta´ and ´Dicolor´ are on the level of the cultivar ´Conference´ by their yield.
Only the cultivar ´Omega´ showed a higher tree growth intensity.
No graft incompatibility with Cydonia was proved according to up to now received results on the selected cultivar group.
Cultivars ´Dita´ and ´Erika´ had their weight of fruits over 200 g.
On the other hand, the cultivar ´Dicolor´ had a weight just 146 g, but due to the full red blush it belongs to the most attractive pear cultivars.
The cultivars ´Bohemica´, ´Dicolor´ and ´Erika´ had its taste at the level of ´Conference´. From the point of view of storage abilities the cultivar ´Omega´ was the best, which lasted up to May.
The cultivar ´Erika´ showed good storage ability.
