A NEW SELECTED ROOTSTOCK FOR APRICOT VARIETIES IN BULGARIA, ‘GREENGAGE – CD 4’

Rootstock ‘Greengage – CD 4’ is a variation of the plum variety ‘Greengage’. It was selected from an old plum plantation in 1970. It was tested in a nursery and in plantation.
Its compatibility with the varieties ‘Hungarian apricot’, ‘Luizetova’, ‘Kasna dryanovska’, ‘Roxana’ and ‘Erevani’ was examined.
The rootstock shows good compatibility with most apricot varieties.
Healing will be best when grafted higher from the ground.
The main virtue of the rootstock is that it ensures moderate growth and high productivity of the grafted apricot varieties.
The trees grafted on this rootstock have considerably smaller size than the trees grafted on others.
This enables high density planting of trees and an increase in their number per hectare.
The yield in kg per 1m³ of canopy of trees grafted on this rootstock is higher than the yield of those grafted on wild plum rootstocks.
The rootstock ‘Greengage – SD 4’ is suitable for fresh, waterlogged soils.
