Abstract
Sour jujube (Z. acidojujuba Cheng et Liu) is a wild shrub from the Rhamnaceae, also known as thorn, wild jujube, mountain jujube, Pueraria needle, etc. (Liu et al., 1994). According to statistics, China began to collect and use jujube fruits as early as 7000 years ago (Li et al., 2013). The cultivation history of jujube in China was at least 3000 years, it has spread all over the north and south during the Han Dynasty.
However, modern research on sour jujube began in the 1980s.
On the basis of Sheng Nongs herbal classic: the fruits of sour jujube, can soothe emotions, cure insomnia, treat disease, and strong body (Li et al., 2003). Relevant experimental studies show that sour jujube tree and fruits do contain high nutrients, also its natural resources in China are abound, so it has great development potential.
