Abstract
Phytoplasma are phytopathogenic agents associated with thousands of diseases affecting wild and cultivated plants all over the world.
Jujube witches broom (JWB), caused by JWB phytoplasma (Candidatus Phytoplasma ziziphi), is the most destructive disease threatening jujube industry.
Accurate detection of phytoplasma is the premise of efficient disease control.
Phytoplasma diseases were first identified by morphological symptoms.
The DAPI staining is the main biochemical method for phytoplasma detection.
Phytoplasmas PCR detection techniques were established by the conserved 16SrDNA sequences.
Quantitative detection was also available by qPCR. Nowadays, visual assay for field detection based on LAMP were developed.
This paper reviewed the development of phytoplasma disease detection, forecast the future research.
