Preliminary jujube grafting results on different Romanian rootstocks

Jujube is considered a new fruit species for Romania and other European countries and the propagation and testing of new cultivars grafted on different rootstock is an important topic.
In this study, we tested two local jujube rootstocks, ‘Jurilovca’ and ‘Ostrov’, and one local selection of Christ’s thorn as rootstocks for seven jujube cultivars.
The rootstocks were planted in early spring at 4.0×1.5 m, and were grafted on site in mid-May using bark and whip/tongue grafting methods.
Grafting success and the scion’s growth were influenced by the rootstock, grafting method, and grafting height.
On site grafting can be a good method for the fast establishment of strong new jujube orchards and this is the first report of Paliurus spina-christi Mill. as a potential jujube rootstock.
