Identification, bioinformatics and expression analysis of the genes involved in jujube shikimate pathway

Abstract
The shikimate pathway connects carbohydrate and secondary metabolisms and has a wide range of regulatory effects in plant development.
Chinese jujube is a dominant and dry fruit tree in Asia.
To date, no study related to the shikimate pathway was reported in jujube, thus the genes related to the pathway were first identified and analyzed.
In this study, 15 genes involved in the shikimate pathway including three genes of 3-deoxy-D-arabino-heptulosonate-7-phosphate synthase (DAHPS), three genes of 3-dehydroquinate synthase (DHQS), four genes of shikimate dehydrogenase (SDH), one gene of shikimate kinase (SK), two genes of 5-enolppyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthetase (EPSPS) and two genes of chorismate synthase (CS) were identified in the jujube genome.
Phylogenetic tree and motif analysis showed that these genes were relatively conservative among various plant species.
Most of them were predicted to locate in chloroplasts, indicating that their functions might be related to photosynthesis.
The protein interaction results also showed that these proteins were involved in photosynthesis and the synthesis of amino acids.
Promoter element analysis indicated that these genes might respond to various stress.
In addition, these genes were mainly expressed in root, stem, leaf and flower, indicating they played roles in the development of these organs.
These results provide clues and basis for further study on the function of related genes in the jujube shikimate pathway.
