Abstract

Micropropagation may be a good alternative for clonal propagation of non-suckering roostocks for hazelnut.
Experiments evaluated the effect of cytokinins (meta Topolin and benzyladenine) added to Driver and Kuniyuki (DKW) modified liquid medium on proliferation of shoots of hazelnut rootstock selection Selfe J. Proliferation of micro-shoots was observed in all treatments containing cytokinins.
The most shoots (8.5) and longest shoots (3.9 cm) after two months of culture were produced with 5 mg L^‑1 meta Topolin (8.5). The highest survival rate (66.6%) was at 5 mg L^‑1 meta Topolin (66.6%). No differences in leaf length or average shoot weight were observed between treatments.
The amount of chlorophyll (SPAD index) was higher for the 5 mg L^‑1 benzylaminopurine (BAP) treatment (19.7). Generally, the type and concentration of plant growth regulators used for in vitro culture had an essential effect on proliferation rate, quality and growth of Corylus avellana Selfe J.
