Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate overall economic impact of the main Italian specialized hazelnut farming systems in the Monti Cimini in the province of Viterbo.
For the assessment, three local typical farm scenarios were assessed trough a Delphi consultation of a panel of experts.
Such scenarios are characterized by the cultivation techniques most frequently adopted in the area.
Revenues produced and distributed in the territory, distinguishing between farmers and other local actors, as well as the ability to create employment and activate additional economic resources have been evaluated.
The results provide important indications, showing that large farms originate positive net margins, in contrast to small ones, and that the local economy benefits from an induced effect with a multiplier of 2.70.
