Abstract
Among progenies obtained by cross and open pollination of standard apricot cultivars, 5 seedlings with dwarf growing habit have been singled out.
The possibility of utilizing genetic dwarf seedlings as parents in a breeding program is the aim of the research.
For this reason a comparison with standard trees has been done for the following characters:
Tree: height, canopy size, trunk cross-section area
Twigs: diameter, length, internode length
Flower: number, morphology, blooming time.
Tree height and internode length of the dwarf selections are from 40 to 50% less, compared to standard control.
All the dwarf selections bloom and the flowers are normal; the pollen is viable but has a low germinability.
