Abstract
It has been established that apricot apoplexy (dieback) occurs in the early period of development.
Its intensity is very variable and depends upon many factors, particularly on rootstock used and height of grafting.
Taking into consideration that the problem of apricot apoplexy is present everywhere in Yugoslavia, the authors undertook an investigation to develop a simplified method for the determination of the most appropriate rootstocks for the above fruit species.
The elaborated method is based on the firmness of both grafting components, i.e. scion and rootstock.
The paper contains the results on wood firmness of individual apricot rootstocks and cultivars, obtained by the method of determination of wood firmness according to pressure expressed in Newton units on one cm square surface.
On the basis of data obtained, the authors classified apricot cultivars which correspond to individual applied rootstocks, presenting in such a way practical information for use in apricot cultivation.
