Abstract
Healthy grafts of apricots and peaches and healthy seed for rootstocks are produced at breeding station Valtice on sharka-free stoolbeds, graft propagation facilities and seed orchards of apricots, peaches, Prunus amygdalo-persica and almonds for all fruit nurseries in the Czech Republic.
The trees at the station and around it are continuously monitored and those with symptoms of sharka are removed.
Prunus have been eliminated from the station.
Orchards for maintenance breeding, new breeds and other trees were isolated in space.
The system of annual visual inspection and serological testing allows to eliminate in time the sources of infection.
The total annual output of 600.000 apricot trees and 400.000 peach trees is produced by the following sharka free trees: 6 ha of the seed orchards of apricots, 4 ha of the seed orchards of peaches, 0.5 ha (1000 trees) of apricot graft stoolbed (and the same for peaches), 1 ha (2000 trees) of the graft propagation facility for apricots and the same number of peaches.
