EVALUATION OF SIZE-CONTROLLING ROOTSTOCKS FOR ‘STELLA’ AND ‘ULSTER’ SWEET CHERRIES

A cooperative European rootstock trial including eleven rootstocks with ‘Stella’ and ‘Ulster’ sweet cherry scions was established at Ullensvang Research Station in 1988 and 1989. Preliminary results indicate that the most promising rootstocks on the basis of reduced vigour and high yield combined with acceptable fruit size are Weiroot 10, Weiroot 13, Gisela 5, Gisela 10 and Camil.
