THE INFLUENCE OF DWARF ROOTSTOCKS ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET CHERRY CULTIVARS IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS AFTER PLANTING

Abstract
The influence of vegetatively propagated rootstocks (P-HL-6, P-HL-84, Colt and MAXMA 14) on growth, blooming and health status of 5 sweet cherry cultivars (‘Rivan’, ‘Burlat’, ‘Merton Premier’, ‘Buttner’s Red’ and ‘Hedelfingen’) was investigated.
Controls included all cultivars grafted on Mazzard seedlings.
Two years after planting, vigor of all cultivars was suppressed significantly by both P-HL rootstock types, especially by P-HL-6; Colt rootstock had no dwarfing influence.
Growth of ‘Buttner’s Red’ was significantly reduced by the MAXMA 14 rootstock.
