Abstract
Great variability exists among populations of Prunus fruticosa (Pall.) Woronow found and studied in Hungary.
Based upon their morphological characters and comparison with descriptions in the literature, the hybrids could be divided into three groups.
The first group partly could be identified as Prunus x mohacsyana (Kárp.) Janch.. The second showed similarity to Prunus eminens Beck. and its hybrid Prunus x stacei Wojcicki.
Few individuals of the hybrid group, described as Prunus fruticosa f. aucta (Borb.), could be identified as Prunus javorkae (Kárp.) Janch. (Prunus fruticosa x Prunus mahaleb).
