Abstract
Selected Prunus cerasus seedlings have been cloned and tried as rootstocks for sweet and sour cherry.
The results are very preliminary and show several P. cerasus clones to be of lower vigour than ‘Colt’. The flower bud formation and the yield in the second and third leaf was better for many of the P. cerasus selections than for ‘Colt’. All selections had as good or better specific productivity than ‘Colt’, when grafted with sweet cherry and most of them showed the same tendency with sour cherry.
However, the results are based upon small yields in the second and third leaf.
A big difference in frost damage to flowers was found among rootstocks, with ‘Colt’ showing the most severe damage.
