Abstract
Initially, dwarfing potential was the main focus for cherry rootstock breeding programs.
Maintenance and improvement of flowering, including both early fruit set and flower density, is being investigated to optimize the performance of the new intensive cherry orchards.
The preliminary results of this new breeding program are presented below.
