Abstract
The yellow, yellowish-green or green floral nectaries in sour cherry cultivars are automorphic, epimorphic or of the transition type, and line the inner surface of the receptacle area.
The nectary epidermis is covered by striated cuticle.
A thick cuticle with sunken stomata indicates xeromorphy.
The glandular tissue of the nectary in medial longitudinal sections of the flower forms either a rectangle-shaped layer, or small groups under stomata, with gaps in areas between stomata.
The glandular tissue is thicker than in sweet cherry, and nectar production is also greater.
The glandular tissue in self-sterile cultivars is thicker than that of self-fertile ones; the latter have reduced nectar secretion.
