CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF TOMATO AND SWEET PEPPER FRUITS CULTIVATED ON ACTIVE SUBSTRATES

Abstract
Owing to multiple advantages, the "soilles" growing system of vegetables has undergone a large development.
However, this system raised the question of nutritional quality of the fruits.
This paper presents some data about the influence of the growing substrates on quality parameters of tomato and sweet pepper fruits, such as: dry matter, sugar content, acidity, vitamin C and pigment contents.
Taking into account the natural resources of Romania, the substrates from different ratio of red and black peat, composted barck and sand were obtained.
NPK mineral fertilizations, micronutrients and limestones were added.
Our previous studies concerning such substrates have shown that a specific activity owing to microbioligical and chemical processes takes place during the vegetation period.
A result of this "activity" of an especially organic nature in these substrates consists in the harvesting of some fruits whose nutritional quality is at least as good as the crop harvested in traditional growing system.
Owing to the significant earliness of harvesting we have found a slight deterioration of tomato quality for the first cluster.
In the fruits picked up from the higher clusters (II – IV), we noticed that gross nutritional value is ameliorated.
In the same time the sugar content, lycopen and somewhat vitamin C, were superior to the fruits harvested in traditional growing system.
In sweet pepper fruits we registered also insignificant changes of the quality parameters, and some noted differences to the biological material were related.
