Abstract
New programmes have been developed for integrated control of mites on tomatoes grown in two types of greenhouses and in open fields.
They include application of biotechnical and biological methods, use of the Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot race, resistant to organophosphorous pesticides, and treatment with selective acaricides.
After planting out of tomatoes in the greenhouse, the biotechnical method is first applied for preventing the initial infestation of plants by mites.
After the primary detection of damages caused by mites on the plant leaves, a corresponding quantity of P. persimilis is released.
Later in the spring and in the beginning of the summer a treeatment with the acaricides propargit (Omite 57 EC), fenpiroksimat (Ortus 5 EC), dikofol (MItigan 18.5 EC) and diafentiuron (Pegassos 25 EC) is carried out.
If tomato rust mite (Aculops lycorsici Masse) appears on the plants, acaricides safe for P. persimilis, are used.
By applying these programmes, maximum protection of tomatoes from mites is achieved.
