Abstract
Carnation is the main greenhouse crop in Bulgaria.
It occupies 80% of the greenhouses.
The most of the carnation cultivars are from the group of SIM and a smaller part are spray carnations.

In Bulgaria the breeding program for carnation has started 25 years ago and now original Bulgarian cultivars are recognized worldwide (Boikov, 1982).

The selection of spray carnations in Bulgaria started following the world and domestic market demand for this crop.
The aim is to create new cultivars with improved ornamental qualities and high adaptation for the local conditions.
