Abstract
Callus cultures of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) varieties were maintained on media containing various concentration of mannitol.
The relative growth rate is lower and dry matter content is higher in stress sensitive calli than in less sensitive one.
Osmotic treatments only increased total free amino acid contents in sensitive bean calli.
In calli of stress sensitive bean varieties arginine, alanine, valine, asparagine acid, threonine, phenylalanine and histidine content increased higher than in less sensitive type.
Shoot weight, root weight, root shoot ratio of the stress sensitive seedlings decreased in greater extent, than in less sensitive one.
Root and shoot dry matter content is higher in sensitive varieties.
Root length only decreased only stress sensitive seedlings.
In leaves of seedlings treatments increased proline, threonine, alanine, arginine, glycine, glutaminacid, phenylalanine and histidine contents greater extent in less sensitive varieties.
The total polyamine, putrescine, spemidine and spermine contents increased higher in sensitive varieties.
