Abstract
The first, limited plum breeding program was started at the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture at Skierniewice, Poland in the early 1960’s.
As a result of that, one cultivar named ‘Wegierka Dabrowicka’ (Dabrowicka Prune) was released and introduced to the commercial production.

The second stage of the plum breeding program with the goal of receiving cultivars tolerant to plum pox virus (PPV) was initiated in 1991. During 1991–1996 one hundred twenty-seven cross combinations were made.
Over three thousand of seedlings were produced and planted in a selection field.

As a result of local selection some generative rootstocks were introduced in 1966. The new breeding program of vegetative rootstock for plums was started in 1997.
