Abstract
At Fruit Growing Research-Extension Station Vâlcea there were studied during 1985–1996 period, a number of 8 seedling rootstocks (Otesani 8, Rosior varatic, Troianu 9, Mirobolan T7c etc.) and 6 clonal rootstocks for plum (Otesani 11, Pixy, Saint Julien A, Miroval, etc.).
Otesani 8, Pixy and Saint Julien A assured a smaller growing vigor comparative with the other rootstocks from P. domestica, P. insititia and P. cerasifera. These rootstocks are suitable for plum orchards with a density up to 1250 trees per ha.
The autochtonous plum rootstocks have showed until the studying period a higher level of adaptability to clay soils which are characteristic for the Sub-Carpathian hills of Romania.
Otesani 8, Otesani 11, Rosior varatic and some of the Myrobolan clones are propagated and spread into culture in different areas of Romania.
