CONTROL OF VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF PLUMS BY USE OF RETARDANTS FROM TRIAZOL GROUP
Less information were gathered on the possibilities of growth retardation in plum trees.
Therefore, trials were undertaken in which preparations BAS 111 WP and Sumi 7 (uniconazol) were used to control the growth of plum trees.
The preparations were applied on 2-year-old trees cv.
Common Prune grafted on Prunus cerasifera Led.
BAS 111 was applied into soil around the tree base in the amount 1, 2 and 4 ml per 1 liter of water.
Preparations were used twice in a season : 1 week after bloom and again 4 weeks later.
Uniconazol was used by spraying the trees 3 times: in green bud stage at conc. 0.1% and 3 weeks after bloom in conc. 0.05% and again 3 weeks later in conc. 0.05%. The chosen groups of trees were sprayed in the same way during two consecutive years.
It was found that BAS 111 was more efficient retardant for plum trees than uniconazol.
BAS 111 decreased mean shoot length distinctly (on average about 50% in the first year of treatments). It increased also the number of spurs and fastened the blooming by about 3–4 days.
Uniconazol was ineffective in the case of plum trees.
