Abstract
Iran is located in a half-dry, dry region of world and almond is consistent with dry regions, therefore investigation of production advantages, and superiorities of this output are necessary.
Almond is one of the oldest fruit trees and most important horticultural crop in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari.
Almond production in this town has seen increase during the last years.
At present time about 4000 hectares of this region is under cultivation of almonds.
For this reason, in this paper, we have first investigated the cultivation area of almond, the increasing of cultivation area for output and production function.
The aim of the current research was to study the main factors affecting almond production.
In this research, factors such as water, land, fertilizer, labour, machinery and other economic inputs were investigated.
The main information and data were collected during field survey in almond producing area in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari.
Three local almond cultivars Mamaei, Safid and Sangi were studied in 2002-2003. These cultivars were selected among sending populations by farmers.
About 150 inquiry forms were filled out by farmers.
Data were completed using supplementary information through investigation of the literature.
To analyse the data, the multiple regression method was used.
The following conclusions were obtained:
Considering the lands are marginally suitable for almond dry farming and irrigation increases production considerably, the best method of irrigation is drip irrigation.
The yield increases by applying fertilizers and manure.
Uses of acid producing fertilizer are recommended for PH reduction.
Using more labour results in liger production, and in the end, factors such as level of farmers management, land preparation and hilly mechanised affected significantly the almond production.
