EFFECT OF AMMONIUM NITRATE AND TRIPLE SUPER PHOSPHATE ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF PISTACHIO TREES

Abstract
In order to study the effect of N and P levels on yield and yield components of mature pistachio trees, a field experiment was conducted in a commercial pistachio orchard on Yaran farms, located in the northern part of Yazd province, Iran, during 2001-2004. The trees were planted in 1990 with a tree spacing of 6×3 m and surface irrigation was used.
The design was randomized complete block with three replications, four N levels (0,300,600,900 g/tree) and four P2O5 levels (0, 300, 600, 900 g/tree) in the form of factorial experiment.
Results of ANOVA showed that effect of N on total nut biomass (at P<0.15), aborts and blanks (at P<0.05) and non-split nuts (at P<0.01) was significant, but effect of P on yield and yield components, except for aborts and blanks, (at P<0.05) was not significant.
Application of nitrogen fertilizer showed a significant effect on total nut biomass, aborts and blanks and non-split nuts.
The highest total nut biomass (3.87 kg/tree), split (2.24 kg/tree) and non-split nuts (1.34 kg/tree) were obtained for 900 g N/tree treatment.
On the other hand, application of phosphorous fertilizer did not show a significant effect on pistachio yield and its component except for aborts and blanks.
The highest total nut biomass (3.61 kg/tree), split nuts (2.3 kg/tree) and aborts and blanks (0.351 kg/tree) were obtained for 600 g P2O5/tree treatment.
Interactive effect of N and P showed that the highest total nut biomass (4.74 kg/tree) and split nuts (3.11 kg/tree) were obtained for 900 g N/tree and 600 g P2O2/tree treatment.
