Abstract
Cola nitida nut and the seeds of Ricinus communis, endemic plants of Côte d’Ivoire were assessed in greenhouse against three soil borne fungi (Pythium aphanidermatum, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici and Macrophomina phaseoli) of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). The aqueous extracts of C. nitida and the siccative oil of R. communis inhibited the mycelial radial growth of the three fungi at 20 g/L on solid medium PDA. No fungicidal activity was raised with the two vegetable extracts.
Nevertheless, the aqueous extract of C. nitida and the powder extract of R. communis strongly repressed Fusarium disease expression and the rot roots of tomato seedlings more than 30% in greenhouse.
The vegetable extracts of C. nitida and R. communis could be used as alternative to fungicides in tomato cultures.
