Abstract
In many apricot growing areas late spring frosts frequently occur causing damage to this fruit species.
The risk of damage by late frosts can be avoided to a considerable extent by the choice of suitable locations.
A delay in flowering may also have the same effect, but is difficult to achieve this because of the known apricot characteristics.

The aim of this work to study the effect of some chemicals on flowering delay in apricot and finding out of the most suitable timing and concentrations of treatments.

So far, the effect of growth retardants on the flowering time of apricots has not been studied in Yugoslavia, and only few authors have been studying this problem in other countries.
Guerriero et al. (1970) delayed flowering of apricots by 3–6 days using maleic hydrazide.
Buban et al. (1978) obtained a flowering delay of 3–4 days applying GA and Ethrel, Kaska (1979) obtained a delay of several days by use of NAA and abscisic acid.
Mozanoshvili (1973) and Sarkisova et al. (1975) studied the effect of natural inhibitors, NAA and chlormequat on bud-break, that is on increasing frost resistance and on yields.
