Abstract
The apricot tree (Prunus armeniaca L; Armeniaca vulgaris) manifests many advantages, such as early development and fruiting, high productivity, excellent fruit quality for immediate consumption or processing, simple and cheap source of bee’s food and the value of its wood.
Inspite of this, apricot production is so far below needs and real possibilitites, which is proved by only a litle over 1.6 million MT of annual world’s yield (some 330 g per capita per year). This is due to a general lack of experiences and viewes, particularly during interests by the producers who are destimulated by erratic bearing and sudden dieback of apricot trees (apoplexy). Among many causes of such behavior are limited and non stable rest period and dormancy, varying from country to country, viruses, physiological disorders, mycoses a.s.o.

After an abundant exchange of experiences and views, particularly during previous international symposiums on apricot culture it is now time to provide a more solid basis for the solution of apricot die-back problems, mobilizing even some of the world’s germplasm material and personal resources which are very high and efficient.
