Abstract
Previous researches carried out in an apricot varieties collection (Guerriero, Xiloyannis, 1975 a, b) pointed out some interesting relationships between growing habits and fruiting behaviour.
According to the morphological and phenological characteristics, the varieties were classified into five groups, each one represented by the following varieties: type A “Luizet” ; type B1 “Canino” ; type B2 “Reale d’Imola” ; type C “Precoce Colomer”; type D “Boccuccia” and “Currot”.
As every group showed different chilling and heating requirements during the rest period there were supposed to be some relationships between changes of bud dormancy and branching model (Arias, Crabbé, 1975).
The research has been carried out in order to verify this hypothesis on the more representative varieties of the 5 groups, in two environments with a slightly different winter climate.
