Abstract
In Morocco, the grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) occupies the fourth place among fruit trees after olives, almonds, and citrus fruits.
The vineyards occupy an area of 49,000 ha for a total production of 230,000 tons, including 172,000 tons of table grapes and 58,000 tons of wine.
Our work consists in analyzing the whole genome of Vitis vinifera L. (whose sequencing project was initiated in 2005), and more precisely to search for microsatellites and the development of SSR markers.
A total of 190 Genbank sequences comprising approximately 437 MB (480 million base pairs) were exploited to extract 2,745,612 microsatellites with a density of 1SSR/174 bp.
Furthermore, primer pairs have been designed for most SSR motifs, and these SSR markers could play an important role in assisted breeding, molecular mapping, and comparative genomic studies, particularly for closely related species of the Vitis genus.
