Abstract
The beneficial effects of horticultural therapy on well-being are known and demonstrated by numerous studies presented in the scientific literature.
Consequently, in recent years, both at the European level and in Romania, an increased interest in the design and arrangement of therapeutic and sensory gardens has been noticed.
However, following an analysis of the actual condition and use of thematic green spaces, stagnation can be observed after the implementation period.
The present study aims to make an inventory of the therapeutic green spaces in Romania, implemented in the post-communist period, and to identify possible interventions and activities based on human-plant interaction, to reconvert and exploit the therapeutic value of the studied spaces.
To this end, following the analysis of the scientific literature related to horticultural therapy, the activities with proven beneficial effects on the improvement of well-being will be identified and proposed for implementation.
In addition to the aesthetic and biodiversity values, we consider that therapeutic green spaces are truly valued if, after being used according to the initial design, they become beneficial for the target group.
