GA₃ ON CITRUS FRUIT SURFACE: UPTAKE AND PERSISTENCE

GA₃ is widely used on citrus fruit, in the orchard and in the packing house.
The effectiveness of GA₃ is dependent upon its uptake and persistence, which can be determined with ¹⁴C-GA₃. Uptake of GA₃ from the dried-out spray residues was high at saturating relative humidity.
Acidification of treatment solutions (pH 4.0) and the surfactant L-77 improved GA₃ uptake significantly.
GA₃ is rather stable on fruit surfaces – 30% degradation in 3 weeks.
Light and low relative humidity enhanced GA₃ decomposition.
