Abstract
GA3 is widely used on citrus fruit, in the orchard and in the packing house.
The effectiveness of GA3 is dependent upon its uptake and persistence, which can be determined with 14C-GA3. Uptake of GA3 from the dried-out spray residues was high at saturating relative humidity.
Acidification of treatment solutions (pH 4.0) and the surfactant L-77 improved GA3 uptake significantly.
GA3 is rather stable on fruit surfaces – 30% degradation in 3 weeks.
Light and low relative humidity enhanced GA3 decomposition.
