Abstract
The growth of nursery trees of cherry cvs ‘Durone dell’Anella’ Durone della Marca’ and ‘Durone Nero II’ was effectively controlled over a two year period by foliar sprays of paclobutrazol and of S3307 ((E)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4, 4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-l-yl)-1-penten-3-ol) applied at the rate of 116 mg/tree in May 1985.
S3307 applied at 11, 22 and 44 mg a.i./tree as foliar sprays reduced shoot growth of cherry cvs ‘Durone dell Anella’ and ‘Durone Nero II’ and pear cvs ‘Abbe Fetel’ and ‘Comice’.
Paclobutrazol and S3307 induced the same growth response on ‘Comice’ pear when applied at the rate of 58 mg a.i. cm2 trunk cross-sectional area.
The strongest promotion of flowering occurred two years after treating with S3307 at the rate of 116 mg a.i./cm2.
