Abstract
‘Cultar’ (paclobutrazol) was applied as multiple low-rate (200 or 250 ppm) foliar sprays in two successive years on 8-year-old Golden Delicious on MM. 106 (750 ppm for a season) and 2-year-old Gloster on M.9 apple trees (1000 ppm for a season) in densely planted orchards.
Sprays were less effective on shoot growth during the first year, but better control was observed in the following year when the sprays were repeated.
During the first year of treatment no effects on yield were observed.
All treatments enhanced fruit bud differentiation and yield in the second year.
