Abstract
Soil application of paclobutrazol to sweet cherry trees (cv.
Hedelfinger R.) in the spring of 1985 reduced new growth in 1985, 1986 and 1987. Growth changes were most pronounced the year immediately following the application (1986).
Hedelfinger R.) in the spring of 1985 reduced new growth in 1985, 1986 and 1987. Growth changes were most pronounced the year immediately following the application (1986).
The percentage fruit set remained unchanged, but fruit quality was positively influenced.
In the application year (1985), less cracked fruits were observed, while fruit weight increased in 1986 and 1987.
Finally, the residual analysis of the soil showed that this chemical is highly persistent and immobile in a loamy soil.
Further investigation of the use of paclobutrazol with other cultivars and in various soil types as well as of the effect of repeated applications is necessary.
