Abstract
Anthers of 10 asparagus genotypes were cultured in A1 medium solidified with 4 commercial gelling agents.
The androgenetic embryos were grown and micropropagated in T1 medium where they proliferated into morphogenic calli.
From these calli three kinds of explant were used for rooting on medium 102: multiple shoots with small crown, embryonic tissues and microcuttings.

The percentage of responding anthers varied from 12.8 to 0.7 according to genotype of the anther donor, but no significant differences were observed among the gelling agents.
Most functional roots originated from a white parenchyma at the base of the explant.
Micropropagation and parenchyma proliferation were strongly influenced by genotypes and by hormonal balance in the medium.
