Abstract
Hitherto there has been no information on the occurrence of Zopfia rhizophila Rabenh. on asparagus in Poland.
The fungus was observed on roots of twelve-year old plants.
Roots with symptoms of fungus were taken from places situated in depressions where rainwater remained the longest time.
Infected roots were not damaged inside but outside they were brown-grey, dark and covered with numerous spots.

A mycological analysis proved that these dark spots are perithecia of Z. rhizophila Rabenh. They were easily noticeable /0.25 – 1.00 mm/ and covered roots in large quantities.
Widely ovate, ballon asci could be seen after pressing the perithecia.
They were reduced in the middle, pointed at the end, brown-grey.
Mature ascospores had the dimension 68–85 x 35–45 μm.
Attempts at isolating Zopfia rhizophila on the medium PDA after washing in tap water failed.
There was conducted a preliminary research on the possible pathogenicity through soil.
