Abstract
Seedlings of the apomictic tea crab apple, Malushupehensis Rehd., were sprayed annually for 6 years with the growth retardant SADH (succinic acid-2, 2-dimethylhydrazide) at 0, 500, 2500 and 5000 ppm.
There was hardly any promotion of the onset of flowering, though the minimal plant height for flowering was reduced by as much as 50%. It is concluded that SADH, which can promote flower formation in many mature fruit trees, is ineffective as a flowering stimulus for seedlings.
