Abstract
‘Bramley’s Seedling’ is a culinary apple with vigorous growth which does not respond to intensive growing systems.
Treatment with SADH or chlormequat was effective in inducing fruit bud and/or reducing extension growth.
Fruit production was dependent on effective pollination and, where this occurred, high quality fruit was produced with yield equivalents of 17, 595, 19, 180 and 30, 119 kg/ha in the fifth, sixth and seventh year after planting.
SADH increased cropping potential by decreasing the number of dormant buds on older wood, but also created an occasional off-year after a relatively heavy crop.
IAA and IBA were ineffective in stimulating rooting of softwood or hardwood cuttings.
