THE INTERACTION OF GROWTH REGULATORS AND TREE ORIENTATION ON FRUIT-BUD FORMATION

Abstract
Combined and separate effects of SADH, GA3 and shoot orientation on fruit-bud formation were studied in potted ‘Cox’s Orange Pippin’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ trees.
It is suggested that GA3 blocks the first steps of the flower-formation process and that SADH and shoot orientation interfere somewhere in subsequent phases.
It is further argued that there is no direct relationship between fruit-bud formation and shoot growth.
