Abstract
Consumers especially in urban areas attend markets held at five-day intervals, store their vegetables inadequately, eat them at random and then wait for another market day.
However, some families have now established vegetable gardens in their homes so that vegetables will be available in their diet more frequently.
Wet valley gardens (Akuro) and demonstration plots near fish ponds have been introduced to supply vegetables during the dry season.
In addition groups of farmers are assisted by the Ministry to produce more tomatoes all year round.
